The Rs reagents were made against the Rs isolate RAC 3854 from potato (Race 3: originally NCPPB 3854 from the UK; P. Gugerli and O. Cazelles, personal communication). Isolates of Rs can be detected to a concentration of 104 - 105 cfu per ml (diluting bacteria from pure culture in extraction buffer). This detection limit is nearly reached when bacteria are diluted in pelargonium sap. For testing pelargoniums, test samples are ideally taken from the lower portion of the main stem or at the base of the first lateral shoot. The plant material is homogenized 1:10 - 1:20 (w/v) in extraction buffer «General» (Art. No. 110120). The product was developed in cooperation with the Federal Research Station Agroscope ChanginsWädenswil (ACW), Changins, Switzerland.
