Many plant families are susceptible to TBSV (2), but the main affected crops are tomato, pepper, tulips and artichokes. Infected plants are generally stunted and mostly show symptoms of systemic mosaic, mottle and deformation of leaves and/or fruits. The virus is transmitted by mechanical inoculation, by grafting, by seed (at a low rate), possibly by pollen to the seed, but is not transmitted by contact between plants. TBSV is present in soils from which it can be acquired by host plants (3). The virus occurs in Europe, the Mediterranean basin, as well as in North and South America.
