Rabbit anti Human collagen IV alpha 5 antibody recognizes collagen IV alpha 5, also known as collagen alpha-5(IV) chain, ATS, COL4A5, ASLN and collagen of basement membrane alpha-5 chain.
COL4A5 encodes one of the six subunits of type IV collagen, the major structural component of basement membranes. Mutations in COL4A5 are associated with X-linked Alport syndrome, also known as hereditary nephritis. Like the other members of the type IV collagen gene family, COL4A5 is organized in a head-to-head conformation with another type IV collagen gene so that each gene pair shares a common promoter. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified for COL4A5 (provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010).
Rabbit anti Human collagen IV alpha 5 antibody detects a band of 161 kDa. The antibody has been extensively validated for western blotting using whole cell lysates.
