These reagents were made against a garlic (Allium sativum) isolate of GCLV from China, isolated by C.T. Deng, Taiwan. The antigen for rabbit immunization was purified from Chenopodium quinoa (1). The reagents react with GCLV isolates from all Allium species. The reagents also recognize European isolates that have previously been named garlic latent virus (GLV); however, do not recognize GLV named isolates from Japan that have been identified as isolates of shallot latent virus (SLV) (3). The reagents also react (to a lesser extent) with carnation latent virus (CLV) (1). A special extraction buffer «bulbs & tubers», containing egg albumin (ovalbumin), is applied for testing Allium species (for bulbs and leaves). Samples are homogenised 1:20 (w/v).
